As the contracted Snohomish County Performance Auditor, Sjoberg Evashenk Consulting was tasked with evaluating the use of overtime in the Sheriff’s Office, overtime trends and administration, and alternative approaches that could be adopted to manage overtime costs within budget constraints. We found that the Sheriff’s Office established many effective practices to oversee and manage overtime, though overtime expenditures regularly exceeded general fund budgeted amounts due to a variety of factors both within and outside the control of the Sheriff’s Office.
